i3 Workshop FAQs

What will I do?

• Work with i3 faculty mentors and students across disciplines to identify issues facing your community and invent sustainable and creative solutions

What will I gain?

• Problem-solving skills needed for a 21st-century job market
• A diverse learning community and network of peers and faculty mentors
• Confidence in your skills and abilities

What are the details?

• This will be a hybrid community program series during Spring 2023
• The workshop will take place both in-person (at SLO Campus) and online
• Beginning January 25, the program will meet every Wednesday from 10am-12pm through April 19th. We will not meet the Wednesday of Spring Break, 3/22.
• Initially all meetings will occur in person on the SLO Campus in room 3114, with the flexibility of your groups to meet online as needed.
• Monetary completion awards in the amount of $500 for students completing the program.

Who should apply?

• All majors, backgrounds, ages, and abilities are welcome! (No work experience and no prerequisites needed.)
• Any Cuesta student interested in collaborating with diverse peers and advancing their problem-solving skills.
• Note: You must be a Cuesta College students enrolled in curriculum classes at the start of Spring 2023.

The i3 program for Invention and Inclusive Innovation is the fruit of a collaboration between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lemelson Foundation and the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. It promotes an entrepreneurial mindset and brings opportunities for students to work on open problems with a focus on innovation and invention. Cuesta College is one of the participants and it will run the i3 program from January through April of 2023. In addition to gaining the training and the experience, your participation will conclude with a $500 cash scholarship, made possible thanks to the support of Cuesta College Foundation and Coast Hills Credit Union.

Registration through Community Programs begins on November 9th. The workshop is offered for 12 weeks on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm beginning January 25 and runs through April 19. There will not be class during Spring Break (March 22).
